Education and Experience

I have been helping individuals and families for over 20 years.  In 1992, I received my Masters degree in Social Work and in 1997, I earned my clinical license granted by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences .  I am also certified as a Clinical Hypnotherapist and a Family Mediator. In the past ten years I have developed  specialties in the areas of eating disorders and body image distress, while maintaining my foundation of treatment for depression and anxiety.  I have provided trainings and seminars on Eating Disorders, Cultural Sensitivity and Identifying Child Abuse to various corporations, community organizations and colleges around Southern California.  In March 2007, I was interviewed by Body Beautiful Magazine for an article titled, "Dying To Be Thin".  I have served on the Board of Directors for the Orange County Chapter of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals, as Treasurer for the past three years.  In October 2011, I will become chapter President. I am also an active member of the National Association of Social Workers and the International Society for Mental Health Online.

Clinical Orientation and Treatment Philosophy

My approach to treatment is one that would be considered eclectic.  I have been formally trained in a number of theoretical orientations, including cognitive-behavioral, family systems, client-centered and solution-focused.  I craft my treatment to each unique individual.  My belief is in the power of the therapeutic relationship to heal.  As such, trust and honesty with each client are important factors that I work to develop.
Pain and stress cause emotional fractures within people.  My approach works to reintegrate the body and mind, promoting wholeness and self-acceptance.  I work in collaboration with each client to identify relevant goals and establish a foundation of health.  I frequently utilize a team approach, particularly when assisting someone dealing with disordered eating.  Teaming with other professionals, such as registered dietitians, physicians and psychiatrists enhances the quality of care I am able to bring to my clients.
